Accelerated expansion of paper cup coatings department
To address the issues of hard to recycle PE-laminated paper drinking cups, the R&D team of TopChim has focused its research efforts in the past years to develop a coating solution as an alternative for the use of PE-laminates. The successful research efforts have resulted in a set of coatings that are used already today for the industrial upscaling of PE-free paper drinking cups production, and this as well for cold drink as for hot drink cups. TopChim will hire new polymer chemists on a short term to reinforce its R&D team, in order to address the need for further product development of these type of sustainable coating solutions for paper drinking cups. TopChim certified member of RSPO
RSPO is a not-for-profit organisation that unites stakeholders from the 7 sectors of the palm oil industry: oil palm producers, processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks/investors, and environmental and social non-governmental organisations (NGOs), to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil.
The RSPO has developed a set of environmental and social criteria which companies must comply with in order to produce Certified Sustainable Palm Oil (CSPO). When they are properly applied, these criteria can help to minimize the negative impact of palm oil cultivation on the environment and communities in palm oil-producing regions.
The RSPO has more than 3,000 members worldwide who represent all links along the palm oil supply chain. They have committed to produce, source and/or use sustainable palm oil certified by the RSPO.
Topchim has recently obtained the RSPO certificate. As of today our customers have the possibility to request for TopScreen ED (Ultra) Bio-waxes containing RSPO certified palm oil and to integrate their own RSPO certificate in their offering.
TopChim member of PCRRG
The Paper Cup Recovery and Recycling Group (PCRRG) exists to develop collection and recycling opportunities for paper cups and identify and support solutions that sustainably transform used paper cups into a valuable resource.
The PCRRG helps to increase the recognition that used paper cups can provide high quality material to the market place and that there is a need to ensure that it is captured effectively for use elsewhere in the paper supply chain.
The PCRRG is made up of pioneering organisations from across the paper cup supply chain, including: paper cup manufacturers; retailers; recycling and waste management companies and paper reprocessers.
TopChim's membership of PCRRG is completely in line with its strategy to develop and supply water based barrier coating solutions for the production of more sustainable and better recyclable paper cups. TopChim has realized successful projects with different important partners in the field of coated cup stock production and is on the brink of an important commercial breakthrough in this market.
CTF2000 and Topchim successfully introduced CoolCare®, the jointly developed textile surface treatment for an innovative cool touch sensation when going to sleep, that will be launched by a global premium mattress brand the second half of 2017.
CoolCare® uses the newest generation of encapsulated PCM (phase change materials) invented and patented by Topchim. Read more
TopChim at PTS coating symposium
TopChim will present a lecture at the 28th PTS coating symposium on 5-6 September 2017 on the development of aqueous coating formulations for cupstock to make recyclable hot drink cups with a high sustainable profile.
TopChim keeps on growing
TopChim is proud to announce an exceptional growth of 39% in its sales for 2016. This is in line with the average annual growth rate of 30% in sales over the past 5 years. Realistic sales forecasts for 2017 show that this trend will remain unchanged.
The packaging market is looking for solutions to move away from PE, fluorinated compounds and fossil fuel based paraffin. So the market for sustainable alternatives has a promising future while TopChim makes sure it develops market competitive solutions to address this emerging market.
The continued strong sales growth of Topchim is the result of a sustained R&D effort during the last 10 years in developing barrier coating solutions for the paper and board packaging industry.
TopChim intends to continue its strong focus on developing barrier coatings and will invest, at the same rate as its sales growth, in expanding its research department and field service operations.
Coverliner - at one with nature
The Coverliner, developed by Klingele Papierwerke with the assistance of TopChim, is a water-, oil- and fat-resistant paper with a TopChim barrier coating. It is based on recycled paper and vegetable oil, and is recyclable and completely biodegradable. With its lotus-effect water-repellent properties inspired by nature, the Coverliner is ideal for the production of packaging for fruit and vegetables, frozen and refrigerated foods, baked goods, animal fodder, greasy/oily spare parts, and much more.
