Fluorocarbon-free grease barrier coating

The packaging market for greasy food is looking for barrier coating alternatives to fluorocarbons, as recent regulations and eco-awareness tend to ban the use of PFC’s.

For decades, the packaging industry has used paper and board treated with a variety of (per)fluorinated compounds types. These compounds are known to accumulate in the body and the environment as they hardly break down. The latest findings of scientific research have shown the urge to switch to harmless alternatives for fluorocarbons in the packaging industry.

TopChim has been developing water based barrier coatings to address this major issue and has been successful in the introduction of greaseproof packaging paper and board with several paper producers.

The TopScreen water based barrier coatings are developed to meet specific technical requirements, depending on the coating equipment of the paper producer and the processing of the paper and board on packaging machines.
